When your mother cloth diapered, she used cotton gauze diapers with no shaping or elastic for close contact, large sharp diaper pins and plastic pants that cracked and discolored when washed! Then disposable diapers arrived on the scene. Mothers were quick to toss their pins and rubber pants, rushing out to buy disposables, filling landfills and curbside garbage bags with diapers.

If you were to calculate how many diapers you use in a week for 52 weeks a year, over the course of approximately 2 years, then multiply that by the cost per box, you would be horrified to find that your little bundle of joy will cost you thousands of dollars in diapering. And you’re only one mother….consider the global impact on landfills and dollars spent. Although the up front cost of cloth diapering is higher, you only buy once, plus the laundry costs are marginal compared to the ongoing cost of disposables. It is estimated that approximately 18 billion diapers go into landfill in the US alone in one year, and they are NOT biodegradable.

With the advent of social and environmental consciousness, we are all rethinking the convenience of disposable diapers, not to mention the ongoing cost. After all, we’re not using wringer washing machines any more!Hence the re-birth of the cloth diaper. No longer a large square of cotton gauze to be folded and pinned to fit the ever growing baby ,todays environmentally aware moms can choose between manmade or environmentally friendly ,organic fibers.

At Little Llama Baby, we have chosen to use natural organic and eco-friendly fibres against your babies tender skin. We offer organic cotton/ Hemp fleece, Bamboo Terry or Bamboo fleece and the new Zorb 2 Dimples fabrics in AIO’s, prefolds and soaker pads. These fabrics stay soft and thirsty, after hundreds of washes. They are super absorbent and hold well under compression.

All our diapers are hand sewn by moms! Made in Canada from fabric knit or woven in Canada and the USA. Our diapers are handmade with only premium fabrics, cotton braid elastic, and Applix closures.

Hemp fleece is 4x more absorbent than cotton, antimicrobial, anti-mildew and does not hold odour. In order of absorbency- most absorbent is Zorb 2 Dimples, Hemp, then Bamboo. Each fabric has its own unique properties and feel. Bamboo is the softest, and the Dimples fabric is a trademark fabric of Wazoodle Fabrics. It has an absorbent core of Hemp, bamboo, organic cotton and wicking fibres sandwiched between 2 layers of Organic cotton jersey, like a pillow, soft and lofty! Hemp fleece has a different feel, much like cotton Sherpa; although it does not get hard like cotton after multiple washes, it stays soft and very absorbent.

Care is simple, all fabrics are pre-washed and pre-shrunk before cutting, all diapers can withstand hot wash and dry or fluff in dryer and hang to dry inside or outside in the sunshine.

We suggest you have 24-30 diapers, and launder every other day. For newborns, we suggest the New Born PUL with a Dimples pre-fold for the first couple of months, then you can use the pre-folds as overnight doublers inside a fitted or All In One diaper.

We hope you enjoy our product and encourage you to try cloth diapering, on the product page you will find several different styles of cloth diapers. Find one that is perfect for your baby!
